So as my birthday present to myself, I decided to finally go to a salon and get my hair dyed. As stated in a previous post, I have a crazy obsession with Kate Beckinsale’s hair. It’s just so perfect !!! So after months of having a photo on my phone that I have been dying to recreate.
(this photo is from Tumblr, sorry I don’t have the credit. It’s just a paparazzi shot anyway)
A few days before I was booked in to get my colour done, I went to the Sechi academy to get a trim. I didnt want to have to pay an extortionate amount for someone to simply cut off my split ends. That trim was $25 and turned out pretty well. If you are in the Melbourne area I recommend giving them a try!
On the 6th Oct I went to the Sechi Salon in Altona Gate. They were doing an offer of as much colour as you want for $99. Just to let you know, that getting your hair cut in this country is ridiculous, like everything else its SOOOO EXPENSIVE! So $99 for colour is pretty cheap.
The salon is lovely and so are the girls there. I sat down at a large table at the back with a few other women who were getting their colour done. I was offered tea, coffee and water and as soon as I had finished I was brought another. Good selection of magazines too (this is vital). So after a little consultation we got started. I wasn’t sat in a usual hairdressers chair, I was sat among these other ladies as they waited for their colour to develop. It was actually really nice to sit like that. I’ve never been to a salon where this happens and its so much more sociable and relaxed. I had my colour put in as I was sat there too. I think it works out for the stylists as all there products are literally in the cupboard next to the table.
The girl , Taylor, I think her name was, suggested that I have light brown and caramel highlights in a balayage style. This would match the photo as best as she could as my hair is quite dark. She did also tell me that it might take a couple of sessions to get my hair exactly like the photo because she didn’t want to over load my hair with bleach as this might cause a lot of breakage. She also gave me the option of dying my roots darker as well to make the change more dramatic and said it was just up to personal preference. It was nice that she offered this and wasn’t trying to scrimp and save because of the offer. I decided not to do this, I want my hair to be as low maintenance as possible, and I don’t want to keep having to do my roots.
So fast forward to washing out the toner/developer what ever its called and onto blow drying. I was so excited to see what it was going to look like. You literally have to wait until the last second until you can see the colour change. As I was going out that evening to Crown Casino for my birthday, I asked her to curl my hair, rather than straighten it. Another girl did this and she took her time and admitted to me that she was a massive perfectionist and didn’t want me to leave until it was perfect. This was sweet. Little did I know however that it cost $65 for them to curl my hair!!! Seriously !!! Looking back I really should have said something, they didn’t tell me it would cost that much. But as it was my birthday and I didn’t want to get into an argument after them being so nice, I let it go. I saved so much money on the colour I really couldn’t complain!
I bought a ‘purple’ hair treatment from the salon to keep my blonde bright. I went into some discount hair salon stores after and found that things were more or less the same price, so I feel like I got a good deal with that. I will do a full review of this product at a later date.
So the finished look…
(Why do i always pull stupid faces?)
Overall impressions: I LOVE MY HAIR. I wish I could walk around and see it from the back all the time. The colours are great, and I may go back at a later date and put some more blonde in as the stylist suggested. The curls make a massive difference to how this colour looks. I blow died my hair straight the other day and it doesn’t look as good because it’s harder to see the contrasting colours. I’ve been putting moose in my hair before bed to add texture for when I go to work. But I might invest in a curling iron as I’m here, i’ll have to investigate prices. If you have any recommendations please let me know!
I have noticed that the texture of my hair towards the ends has changed. This doesn’t really surprise me as it has been bleached, but I think I need to get a hydrating serum or something. Caring for coloured hair is a lot different I think so this is just something I’m going to have to learn. Upon the advice of various people, including a hairdresser friend, I have bought myself a Tangle Teezer
and I’m researching Moroccan Oil prices. I will do a full review of these products when i get them!
But yay, I am so pleased with how it looks 😀 LOVE LOVE LOVE !
Please let me know of any hair mask/treatment recommendations or if you have any other tips for me.
