Updated: What’s In My Bag – Travel Edition

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged and I’m annoyed at myself for that… I must try and update this more! I stated this blog at the start of the year and never got around to finishing it….. bad bad bad Hope! Anywyay… here we go!

I love to travel and this year I’ve been travelling a lot! I haven’t checked luggage on a flight for a number of years so my packing skills have improved and I only tend to take things that I love and need. No more packing 6 pairs of shoes for a 4 day trip!

Why I cancelled my Birchbox

Why I cancelled my Birchbox

This is a very belated post, I started writing it but never got around to finishing it. I guess because of my overall disappointment. Sorry!

January Birchbox 2016

This box was in conjunction with Pinterest, hence the very cute box.

Now this review may seem a little negative and leads on to why I decided to cancel this subscription service.

Birchbox September 2015

Birchbox September 2015

Beauty subscriptions are everywhere these days and Birchbox is one of the biggest players in America. I don’t know how I didn’t know that they now operate in the UK. I stumbled across their website and noticed they were doing an offer,September for 50% off a box, to celebrate their 5th US birthday.

I used to be a subscriber to GlossyBox, one of the first major UK beauty subscriptions and I really enjoyed receiving my boxes every month, it’s like Christmas! I stopped my subscription at Uni when I realised I was drowning in products. Subscription services are a gamble, one month you could get a load of products that just aren’t for you, but the following month you could adore everything, it really is down to personal preferences. But because of the Birchbox offer, I really couldn’t resist.

It arrived just a few days after I ordered which was very impressive. This box is specially designed for their birthday and I believe the design of the box often changes. They are very cute and a good size to use later as storage if you choose.

The products come in a little draw string bag which I thought was a really nice touch.

Here are my thoughts and feelings on the products I received this month.wpid-wp-1443174733189.jpeg

Birchbox Birchbrush

This small hairbrush is basically their version of a Tangle Teezer. These briushes are supposed to be more gentle on your hair. In my eyes, my Tangle Teezer can never be replaced, but I think I will throw this in my gym bag. It’s a nice little addition.

Beauty Protector Beauty Wash Body Cleanser

This smells lovely and it’s always handy to have mini body washes for travel. I am terrible at describing scents, it’s not overly floral, or overly sweet, it’s just a perfect feminine scent without being overly girly. The full size is £8.00 which I think is a little steep for a body wash, so I will enjoy the mini size but won’t be purchasing the full size.

Laqa&Co Lip Pencil in Humble Brag

This was a really cute, good sized, lip pencil, similar to the Revlon Balm Stains or the Clinique Chubby Sticks. It was a little drying but that helped with the staying power. It lasted a good few hours and held up ok when I was eating and drinking which was impressive. This colour is a very bright pink which clashes a tad with my ginger hair, but when I decide to go back to brunette, I will definitely be using this.

Benefit the Professional: License to Blot

I have only tried this once so far, but I did actually notice a difference in my shininess. I wear powder foundation and I do tend to get oily in my tzone and this did make a difference. I applied this after I cleansed and moisturised on my forehead and down my nose. It was very smooth and left a nice base for my powder foundation. I shall keep testing this over the month to see if I notice a dramatic difference.

John Masters Organics Citrus & Neroli Detangler

I applied this detangler onto wet hair and ran my fingers through my hair to distribute it and get rid any knots in my hair. My hair isn’t overly tangley so it’s difficult to tell if this really works… The smells though is really lovely and stayed in my hair over night and until the next day, always a bonus!

Laura Mercier Face Polish

I do love a good exfoliator, it’s important to exfoliate your skin to get rid of all the dead skin cells (ew). I tend to exfoliate once a week because I have sensitive skin. This face polish has a great consistency because it’s very grainy and you can really feel it working. The scent is pretty neutral which I like too. A little bit goes a long way so I’m hoping the mini sample size will last me a while. This was also great timing as I recently ran out of my Origins exfoliator.

Overall, I am really happy with the products I received. For £6.47, I got a lot of products that I will definitely use.  I am doing lots of travelling in October so they will definitely come in handy. I’ve seen a little preview of the October boxes which you have the option to choose between 2 boxes; one is designed by my favourite magazine Stylist and the other is by Birchbox. Click here to see a preview of what’s to come in October! I can’t wait to try some new products next month.

Passport to Paris

Passport to Paris

I’m currently packing for a little holiday to Paris. Most girls find it difficult to work out what to wear… Luckily my friend Maria helped me in that department! Capsule wardrobe is a go ! She is like my live in stylist!  But the thing I find hardest is what make up do I pack ? I have so much and picking things out is so hard! What foundation shall I take? Will I even need foundation ?! What eyeshadow, eye liner, how much makeup am I actually going to wear?

The Ryan Air Makeup Bag Challenge

The Ryan Air Makeup Bag Challenge

I’m going on holiday for a week to Croatia, and I refuse to pay Ryan Air for my luggage. So I’m going with just a small carry on bag. It’s going to be tough. I’m naming this the ‘Ryan Air Makeup Bag Challenge’ !

I shall let you know my progress.

And please excuse the poor image quality, that photo is from my Instagram. Better quality product photos and reasons why I chose them will be added soon 😀

Hope x

So I’m back from Croatia and I had an incredible time in the sunshine. It is a beautiful country and if you ever get the opportunity to visit, I highly recommend it!

Suprisingly, my RyanAir flights weren’t that bad! Yes, packing everything into one tiny bag, only to separate it after the checkpoint is annoying, but I did it! Obviously, I separated my liquid products from my errr non-liquid and I tried to only pack essentials. As the weather was so nice, I really didn’t wear a lot of makeup. No foundation , my skin must have loved me !

I of course took my Green People moisturiser with SPF 15, Korres Face Primer, my bareminerals foundation for the days when I needed a little light coverage, and my Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Concealer Palette. All of these products are small and compact and work amazingly well in the sun.

I took my E.L.F blush and bronzer duo to fake a little colour. Many people compare this blush to Nars – Orgasm. I do not own this blush so I cannot really say whether it is an exact dupe for it, but I will say I have been to the counter and they do look pretty similar, but the E.L.F one is a fraction of the price! For travel this is also a bonus as it holds 2 products in one!

I love the Boots cucumber face wipes too, they are always helpful when traveling and don’t dry out my skin too much. They smell great and are really cheap!

For brows I took along my HD Brows palette, which can also double as an eyeshadow palette. I don’t know where I’d be with out this! If i have my eyebrows filled in, a bit of mascara and a lip colour I feel like I have a full face of makeup on. Brows help define your eyes, and eyes are the window to the soul… or so the saying goes! To apply this shadow to my brows I use the Sigma E65

As you can see from the image above, I only took one eyeshadow palette and that was the Urban Decay Ammo Palette. I chose it because it is very compact and has a variety of colours from brights to natural colours. The pigmentation of Urban Decay products is second to none and UD are one of my fave brands of all time! My favourite shadows include ‘half baked’ (a name I nearly used to name my blog) and Sin, which is a beautiful champagne colour. With this palette, you really don’t need anything else. I paired this palette with my E.L.F eyeshadow primer, which is amazing. I have used a variety of primers and this is one of the best and it is the cheapest ! It helps your eyeshadow last all day (and night) and stops the shadow melting off your face in the heat.

I also literally took ONE eyeshadow brush…. just ONE! I couldn’t believe this myself considering how many brushes I actually own. But my E.L.F eyeshadow did its job well, and I didnt have to worry about taking an expensive brush that was just going to get bashed around in my bag.

I took 2 lip colours with me and of course they were my Revlon Lip Butters, which I adore. The two colours I took were Berry Smoothie ( a dark pink) and Strawberry Shortcake (a light pink). Perfect for all occasions!

My makeup bag, for all of you who are interested, is from Primark. I think it was £3 or something like that. REALLY CHEAP! It’s super cute and I had to buy it as soon as I saw it!

Overall, my advice for flight packing is to try and travel light. I know that it is easier said than done, but how much makeup do you really need on holiday ?

  1. Take a small eyeshadow palette with a variety of colours.
  2. Pack primers (both eye and face) to ensure any makeup you do decide to put on, stays on!
  3. Lip colours are more effective when its warm and you don’t have to worry about them as much, plus they are quick so you can be out the door and hitting the beach.
  4. SPF SPF SPF !!!

So what do you guys like to pack for holidays ? Have you done the Ryan Air Makeup Challenge ? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

I hope you all have amazing summer vacations. Here are a few holiday snaps for you to take a look at 🙂
